The European Union has not only failed Europe. It has failed the world. The EU has curtailed the economic, social and cultural progress of the component countries. To the extent that in composite, a Europe of properly independent states would have enjoyed greater total economic growth and socio-political evolution over the same period, in the absence of the EU.
The EU has made patriotism a sin. When really it is a virtue. Instead of celebrating our cultural differences it seeks to end them. True patriotism is not the relegation of one nation in order to exalt another. It is the belief that my nation has much to share and offer yours. The true patriot is the only possibly genuine internationalist.
